‘Most-Wanted’ Fugitive Behind Texas ICE Ambush Captured in North Dallas

Former Marine Arrested in Connection with Prairieland Detention Center Attack

Benjamin Hanil Song, a 32-year-old former U.S. Marine Corps reservist, has been apprehended in North Dallas for his alleged role in the July 4th attack on the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas.

Authorities arrested Song at a Far North Dallas apartment complex following a weeklong manhunt.

He faces charges including three counts of attempted murder of federal agents and three counts of discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

According to officials, Song purchased four firearms linked to the ambush.

During the attack, assailants dressed in black military-style clothing set off fireworks and spray-painted vehicles to lure officers outside before opening fire.

An Alvarado police officer was shot in the neck but has since been released from the hospital.

Ten other individuals have been charged in connection with the incident, with additional arrests made for obstruction of justice and aiding Song’s escape.

Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson stated, "The fourteen individuals who planned and participated in these heinous acts will be prosecuted, and we expect justice will be swift."

In related developments, the Dallas City Council recently approved a $13.65 million land acquisition in Far North Dallas for the future development of a community park.

This initiative aims to provide recreational amenities in areas currently lacking such facilities.

Additionally, the City of Dallas has passed a transformative ordinance to support "missing middle" housing, allowing buildings of up to eight units and three stories to be permitted under a modified residential code.

This change is intended to address the city's housing shortage by facilitating the development of diverse housing options.

These developments reflect ongoing efforts to enhance community infrastructure and housing availability in North Dallas.
