Community Gathers to Honor Victims and Aid Recovery Efforts |
In a heartfelt demonstration of community support, the Dallas Zoo illuminated its iconic giraffe statue in green over the weekend to honor the lives lost and families impacted by the recent devastating floods in North Central Texas.
The statue will remain lit through the end of the month, serving as a beacon of solidarity and remembrance.
In a statement, the zoo expressed, "We hope this one act offers a small measure of comfort and support during this difficult time."
They emphasized their commitment to standing with the affected communities as they begin the healing process.
The floods, which struck over the July Fourth weekend, resulted in significant loss of life and property damage across the region.
In response, various organizations have stepped up to provide aid.
The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans each pledged $500,000 to support flood rescue, relief, and long-term recovery efforts.
Additionally, the NFL Foundation committed another $500,000, bringing the total contribution to $1.5 million.
Local businesses have also played a crucial role in the relief efforts.
In Fredericksburg, Biedermann’s Ace Hardware and Lochte Feed & General Store offered support and supplies to those affected.
McCoy’s Building Supply in Kerrville distributed free cleanup kits to assist homeowners in the arduous task of cleaning up.
National retailers like The Home Depot Foundation pledged $250,000 to support relief efforts, partnering with nonprofits to deliver essential supplies and coordinate volunteer efforts.
As the community continues to rally together, the Dallas Zoo's tribute stands as a poignant reminder of the strength and resilience of North Texans in the face of adversity. |
